While Sea Change Weight Loss Clinic is widely recognised for our comprehensive bariatric programs, our specialists, Dr Mark Gately and Dr Martin McLeod, are also highly experienced, fully qualified General Surgeons.
ㅤ
Beyond weight loss surgery, we provide a broad range of elective general surgery and diagnostic procedures for patients in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Region. We apply the same patient-centred approach to our general surgery patients and always aim to provide the highest standard of care at all times.
General Surgery Procedures We Perform
Our surgeons utilisze state-of-the-art, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques where possible to reduce recovery time, minimise scarring, and get you back to your daily life sooner.
Our core general surgery services include:
- Endoscopy (Gastroscopy): A minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to examine the lining of the upper digestive tract (oesophagus, stomach and duodenum). This is essential for diagnosing conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, swallowing difficulties and unexplained abdominal pain.
- Colonoscopy: A vital screening and diagnostic procedure to examine the large intestine (colon). Colonoscopies are critical for bowel cancer screening, investigating changes in bowel habits, and identifying or removing polyps before they become problematic.
- Hernia & hiatal hernia repair: We perform both open and laparoscopic hernia repairs to treat a variety of hernias, including inguinal (groin), umbilical (belly button) and incisional hernias (occurring at the site of a previous surgical scar).
- Skin lesion & soft tissue excision: Safe, precise surgical removal of benign and potentially concerning skin and soft tissue abnormalities. This includes the excision of lipomas (fatty lumps), sebaceous cysts and suspicious skin lesions.
- Gallbladder surgery (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy): The minimally invasive removal of the gallbladder, most commonly performed to relieve the painful symptoms and complications associated with gallstones.
- Other general surgery procedures.
